On Saturday 27/7/19 cricket RSUC headed to RSC Kiara to play a friendly game, albiet, minus our 2 aces, Desmond and Kuven who already had prior commitments.
To our surprise, all the cricket stalwarts of RSC were in attendance to play the game. Also present was Charlie Chelliah, the Sports Chairman and Ashraf, the former Asian Cricket Confederation chief, who is a keen follower of the RSUC/RSC cricket rivalry.
We won the toss but alas, we only had 6 players at time of toss, and had no alternative but to bat. The batting pitch was unpredictable as the ball kept low at some spots, and our batsmen found it hard to cope. As usual, it took captain Thava to stabilise the innings as wickets begin to tumble. He had to retire on reaching 30 but was allowed to come back to complete the inning at the fall of the last wicket. When Kovind fell to a Golden Duck completely missing a ball, it was time to reintroduce captain Thava again to prop up the score. He and Pravin guided the score to 113 runs in 25 overs. After a short respite, it was time to troop back and welcomes the opening pair from RSC.
It was a brave gamble by captain Thava to start with the spinners frm both end, but it paid dividen. Syaris send back Nadal with his first ball to hand Nada with a Golden Duck. Two overs later it was Ashish turn as his leg spin edged Conrads bat and he was caught at gully by Syaris. Mohidin as usual gave the batsmen some anxious moments with his lofted slow deliveries. In the end he chipped in with 2 wickets. Safe wicket keeping by Thava also slowed RSCs progress. As the overs begin to diminish, RSC had to scramble for runs. In the end they finally pass our score of 113 with 3 balls to spare. Pravin, Alex and Niven all chipped in with 1 wicket each. As admitted by RSC players, it was a hard fought game and showered praises to our bowlers who bowled well and make them struggle for the win. Well done boys, the nets session really helps. Thank you RSC for the friendly and refreshments after the game.
