The Royal Sungei Ujong Club Football Section organized the 4th Edition of the much-anticipated MS Security Cup. This is a closed tournament for the section members and as usual was filled with much pomp and excitement. The tournament just gets better and better year by year. The theme for this year’s edition is Malaysia Cup hence the four teams adapted a Malaysia Cup Team.
Chennai Express became Penang, Pootchi FC became Kedah, Paavadai FC became Sarawak and Punjab Tigers FC became Negeri Sembilan.
The presence of YB Nicole Tan Lee Koon, Exco Negeri Sembilan to officiate the tournament with an amazing speech and the official kick off penalty shoot was a great excitement. RSUC President Mr.Gordon Yong, Vice President, Sports Chairman Mr.Cheo, members of the GC and all the sports captains from the various sections were also present to commemorate the tournament kick off.
Group Matches were played at Arena RSUC from 330pm. Each match was played for twenty minutes. The inclusion of a new category to choose the Man of The Match for each game increased the intensity and brought our games to a new level. The round robin format was used for group games with the top two entering the finals. Everyone played went with their hearts out and truly was a winner on the field. Words from around the arena RSUC were, we shall have many more similar participation and events to foster greater camaraderie ship amongst members to stand united and stay healthy.
Penang topped the group and Kedah became runner up in group stage, hence Penang & Kedah faced off each other in the finals. The full-time score was 0-0 which led to the penalty kicks which was won by Penang with a score of 5-4.
After the game, players and officials had a short break and hence, we adjourned to Tuanku Jaafar Hall for the dinner and prize giving which was led by our Sports Chairman Mr.Cheo. We started off the dinner with a lucky draw to raise some donations for a fellow former RSUC Guest player who is down with a stroke and continued with a superb video compilation by Mr,Vishnu & team. Even our Captain Istritharan’s speech was recorded and telecast for viewing. A vestige of gratitude was given to our Junior Development Program Coaches headed by Coach Appu, Coach Gerard Xavier, Coach Sathia and Coach Ramesh. Then we continued with the birthday celebrations for our Vice Captain Saravanan Sanasi and Mr.Murali. Both born on the same day as our tournament. What a way to celebrate for footballers with passion for the game.
The official part of the evening was kept amazingly simple but complete to cover the whole tournament.
The officials choose these individuals for the following awards. The Best Goal Keeper award went to Mr.Tan Kok Yoong, The Top Scorer went to Captain Istritharan and man of the match for the Finals was Mr.Thanabalan. Many thanks to the presence of our two very senior and experienced Match Officials Coach Kuppan & Coach Rajakabool@Appu who did the comprehensive match analysis and come up with the winners for all the listed categories.
Then, Mr.Cheo, flanked by Coach Kuppan & Coach Appu handed the winners Challenge Trophy to the winning Captain of Penang Team for the grand celebrations.
The night continued with many fun memories and fellowship whilst maintaining the social distancing and upkeeping with the new norms post the Covid-19 pandemic.
